Brisbane’s masters of darkly up-beat power-pop Sports Fan are back with new single ‘This Is Goodbye’. With a heavier sound than previous releases, ‘Goodbye’ explores the sonic limits of the guitar-less trio of piano, bass and drums.

Exploring themes of desperation, passive-aggressiveness, helplessness and silence, singer and pianist Dion Read has drawn on his own battles with anxiety and the effect it can have on relationships.

Reuniting with in-demand producer/engineer Yanto Browning, ‘This Is Goodbye’ is a reworking of their recording for QUT’s Indie 100 Project 2014, where it was selected as one of the top tracks by industry judges.

Complementing these themes is the ambitious, self-directed and edited video, highlighting the energetic and pulsating nature of ‘Goodbye’ with a slow build that climaxes in the final minute of the track. The painstaking process of editing the grid-based video has resulted in a precise relationship between music and visuals, light and shade, grey and colour.
